These days we all lead busy active lives. We work out at the gym, take long walks or go jogging. We run marathons and ride bicycles. Our Fit Bits count our steps, hoping to reach 10,000. These activities cause our feet to sweat,,, a lot. This means our shoes take a real beating. This leads to smelly, stinky footwear. There are several things we can do to mitigate the stink. One thing not to do is throw the offending shoes into the washing machine. Although it is sometimes recommended, the beating your expensive athletic shoes take in a washer is not worth it.
It is a good idea not to wear the same pair of shoes two days in a row. Give them some time to air out before putting them away in the closet. You can freshen them up by sprinkling baking soda in them after wearing. Just be sure to dump the baking soda out before wearing them again. Salt will also absorb moisture and odor. but again, shake it out before wearing the shoes again. You can also remove the insoles and wipe them with a diluted mixture of one part vinegar to five parts water. The inside of the canvas shoe can also be wiped out using the vinegar and water solution.
You can purchase an antiperspirant especially for feet that you can use daily to help with the problem. This idea will help your feet to stay fresher. Gym bags can be kept fresh smelling with a dryer sheet.
Treat your shoes right, keep them clean and odor free and they will carry you on all sorts of great adventures!
