Hiring a Cleaning Service?

Summer has arrived and you have a half dozen activities planned with the family this week.  But if you spend your long weekend at the beach or the pool basking in the sun, who will clean your house, elves?  You have a couple of choices.  You could send the family off to frolic in the sand and clean the house yourself.  Of course you’d hate every minute of that.  Or you could hire a cleaning service to do the work for you.  We have already discussed in a previous article why you should hire a house cleaning service as opposed to an individual.

Personal In-Home Cleaning Estimate

To find a cleaning service in Virginia Beach , Norfolk or  Chesapeake you will most likely start with good old Google.  There you will find a good number of local services.  Most of them are national franchises.  Custom Maid was founded by a local family and locally operated. Look at their web sites. Ours is HouseCleaningByCustomMaid.com   That will give you a preliminary feel for a service.  Some might even have a form for you to fill out to get a price.  As a cleaning professional for 31 years, I don’t understand how a cleaning service can properly price a job without first doing a personal in-home cleaning estimate.

No two homes look the same.  Even though my next door neighbor has a floor plan which is identical to mine, I live alone and there are five adults living in their home.  People have different furnishings.  Some people own lots of furniture, others use a more minimalist approach.  If pets or young children live in the house, cleaning will take longer.  Frankly some people keep a neater home than others.  A computer algorithm cannot take all the variables into account.  Custom Maid will set up a time that is convenient for you. One of our very experienced representatives will come to your home to do a personal in-home cleaning estimate.

What Happens After the Phone Call?

We will walk through your home with you to be sure we understand how you want things done. We will point out details that will be taken care of for you.  During the personal in-home cleaning estimate you should let us know if there are any items in your home that you particularly value (either monetarily or sentimentally).  A note about that item will be placed into your permanent record so your cleaning team will know it is special and how to handle it (or leave it alone).

We like to come out and meet you so you will be able to put a face to the voice you will hear on the phone.  Our senior staff, Susan D., Susan H. and Janet C. have almost 50 years combined experience assisting Custom Maid clients.  Custom Maid offers quality, personal house cleaning and we want to be sure we are pricing your home properly according to size, furnishings etc.

Give us a call at 757-499-8568 Monday through Friday 8:30 to 4:30 and Susan, Susan or Janet will answer your questions and even give you a ballpark idea of price.  We don’t want to waste your time if our approximate price is not satisfactory to you.  We hope to hear from you this week so we can get your personal in-home cleaning estimate on our schedule.

Why and how to clean my washing machine Did you know that your washing machine can collect dirt and harbor bacteria and fungus? There is a thin film created by soap residue, minerals and chemicals from detergent. This can cause a clog in the inner workings of your machine, your water won't be as hot and the film also traps odors. The tiny crevices in the drum and gaskets can collect mildew and bacteria from your clothes. They can also harbor fungus. If you have a top loader here are some steps to follow when cleaning : Wipe interior seals around the door with all purpose cleaner Remove debris around filter or drain Use 1 cup of white vinegar with 1/2 cup baking soda then run a cycle on heat If you have a front loader here are some tips to follow when cleaning: Have a small bowl or towel ready to catch any excess water Remove the filter from the small door on the front panel of the machine Shake over trash can and rinse out. Use 1/2 cup baking soda and 3 cups white vinegar to scrub inside the drum and rubber gaskets You can use washing machine cleaner which can be purchased on line if you prefer Remove the fluids dispenser to clean each tray with disinfecting wipes Wipe out the area inside where the dispenser is located with the wipes If you have a "clean cycle" run the cycle, otherwise run the largest load setting on hot We hope this has been a quick and helpful guide for cleaning your washing machine . Remember, your washer should always smell fresh not like mildew.
