You have finally made the decision to hire a cleaning company. Now what? You should start by asking friends, neighbors and co-workers for recommendations. Call the local Better Business Bureau for suggestions, and read the reports of your top three or four choices.
Go online and search “housecleaning” with the name of your city. Go to the websites of four or five services to see if they meet your requirements. Look particularly at the FAQ section and read any testimonials. Narrow your search to the best two or three candidates. Either call them or fill out a contact form from their website.
Set up an in home estimate with your top contenders. Not all companies will do in home estimates. In that case, be sure that you tell the representative over the phone all things that are important to you. If you don’t want them to touch a collectible that is particularly dear to you, say so.
In home estimates will allow the company to see your home as their cleaners will see it. At this point the companies will give you a firm price for routine cleaning. Expect to pay a little more for your first time cleaning as the company you hire will take longer that first visit.
Once you have firm prices from two or three companies, make your final decision. Who made you feel most comfortable? Which one seemed the most knowledgeable about the cleaning process? Who did your neighbor recommend? Don’t necessarily go with the least expensive. Other intangibles are more important.
Now that you have hired a cleaning company, communicate with them. If you ever have a problem with the work, all companies would want to hear that right away. They should make it easy for you to tell them what is going on. Many will leave you a comment card after every visit. Most will have a way to rate their service on their website.
