But what, exactly, is green cleaning. It is not necessarily cleaning without any chemicals although that technology is getting better and better. It is actually called chemical free cleaning and is accomplished with steam cleaning machines. They will remove soil, debris, allergens etc. from your environment. The machines are not really for personal use due to cost. There are some cleaning companies that do chemical free cleaning.
More commonly, green cleaning is defined as using chemicals sparingly. Some people use household items such as vinegar to clean and think they are chemical free. Vinegar, in that context, is a chemical. It is not any more environmentally friendly than other chemicals which can be purchased at your local grocery store, but it is still a chemical nonetheless.
At Custom Maid, we have been trying to cut down on the number of cleaning chemicals we use. We make sure that the ones we do use are environmentally friendly and very safe for you, your family and your pets. In the dusting portion of our tasks, for instance, we do not use any chemicals at all. No furniture polish, no dusting spray. Years ago we switched to microfiber cloths to dust with. Microfiber actually picks up the tiniest dust particles and holds on to them. Unlike a feather duster, it does not merely relocate the dust. It removes it. For stubborn areas like rings left by drink glasses on furniture, all it takes is to slightly moisten the microfiber with plain water and the rings will disappear.
At Custom Maid our teams use chemicals from a line called Ecolab. Many of the products we use are Green Seal Certified. None of our products have VOCs (volatile organic compounds). We have to be very careful about toxic chemicals. Not just for you and your family, not just for our staff but also for the environment. If you ever need to know what ingredients are in our chemicals, just call our office. We will send you a copy of the Material Safety Data Sheet (required by the federal government on every chemical) .
In short, you can rest easy because Custom Maid is taking good care of your family’s health.
